Part-Time Security Guard

The Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) is seeking applicants for a Part-Time Security Guard at our Albuquerque, New Mexico location. This position is for Saturday and Sunday from 4:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. This position is manned 24/7, 365 days a year, which will require working all holidays, and occasionally filling in to cover other shifts as needed. This is a non-benefitted position, it is not eligible for insurance, retirement, paid leave, or tuition assistance. The selected candidate will issue badges, maintain the security of the SDL campus, and monitor CCTV. 

The Space Dynamics Laboratory, a University Affiliated Research Center, has been developing innovative technologies and solutions for cutting-edge DoD and intelligence programs for over six decades. Our expertise is in space and airborne IR, VIS, UV, and RF sensors, small satellite technologies, test and calibration, cybersecurity, data visualization and assurance, and ground stations.

Responsibilities include:

  • Greet and assist visitors
  • Check in/out visitors and issue visitor badges
  • Update visit log daily, scan and attach check-in form and US Citizenship Verification form to Visitor Tracking
  • Answer phone
  • Monitor CCTV
  • Ensure security protocol is followed
  • Conduct security patrols
  • Alarm response
  • Follow emergency response procedures

Required Qualifications:
·     Must be a US citizen

  • Current Security Clearance is preferred or must be attainable within a reasonable amount of time
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information     
  • Ability to effectively communicate and coordinate with a wide range of internal and external customers

·      Punctual – must be on time and dependable

  • Professional, friendly demeanor
  • Computer experience, Microsoft Office software, and various office equipment
  • Excellent verbal, written, and professional communication skills
  • Ability to work independently, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Exceptional observation and decision-making skills
  • Organizational skills
  • Works well under pressure
  • Ability to prioritize assignments
  • Ability to walk long distances at night, in adverse weather conditions, and climb stairs


  Preferred Qualifications:

  • Able to work extended hours, or cover other shifts during the week as needed
  • Working knowledge of S2 access control software
  • Working knowledge of Milestone CCTV Software
