Position Description:

 

The Earth Sciences department at City College of San Francisco is currently seeking to hire part-time faculty to provide instruction in Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Our GIS courses serve students seeking transfer degrees and professionals seeking to advance their GIS skill set. Instructors can expect to work with students at various learning levels in a collaborative department environment and work on furthering the goals of the college.

 

Job Duties:

 

1. Teach one or more of the following college-level courses in the Earth Sciences Department:

 

• Introduction to Geographic Information Systems (GIS)

• GIS Analysis and Modeling

• GIS Software and Technology

 

2. Teach day, evening, and/or Saturday classes on and off campus as required, online or in-person.

3. Perform duties associated with instruction and assessing student progress which include, but are not limited to, grading, required recordkeeping, evaluate and report student learning outcomes, etc.

 

4. Participate in the following duties as part of the department's commitment to the GIS certificate's status as a Career Technical Education (CTE) program.

 

• Outreach with existing or potential public and private partners in GIS related sectors

• Committee work required in maintaining CTE status

• Support students in internship placement

 

5. Participate in departmental functions, such as staff meetings, committee work, faculty evaluations, curriculum development, and assessment of student learning outcomes.

 

6. Teach day, evening, and/or Saturday classes on and off campus as required, online or in-person.

 

7. Supports and engages in an innovative culture of culturally responsive, inclusive and anti-racist practices as it relates to student success with an awareness of student equity gaps.

 

8. Participates in ongoing training on diversity, equity, inclusion and anti-racism to center pedagogy.

 

9. Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

 

City College of San Francisco Minimum Requirements:

 

1. Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities to work with community college students with disabilities, various sexual orientations, and diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds (Required).

 

2. Earned Master's Degree or higher in Geography from an accredited institution; OR THE EQUIVALENT.

Desirable Qualifications:

 

1. Master's thesis and/or professional experience incorporating Geographic Information Systems .

 

2. Previous successful teaching experience at the college level in Geographic Information Systems.

 

3. Demonstrated experience with ArcGIS Pro and complimentary programming languages such as Python.

 

4. Public outreach, professional publications, and/or other teaching experience.

 

5. Demonstrated commitment to improving instruction and student assessment methodologies through professional development.

 

6. Experience organizing internships or field research experiences with students.

 

7. Demonstrated ability to teach students with widely varying abilities and levels of preparation.

 

8. Demonstrated ability to work professionally and effectively with colleagues.

 

9. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in oral and written English.

 

10. Familiarity with and commitment to the mission and functions of a community college.

 

11. Evidence of successful instructional experience at the university or college level using culturally responsive pedagogy.

 

12. Demonstrated experience with and knowledge of inequities in higher education and a commitment to rectifying policies and processes that restrict access for historically minoritized and disproportionately impacted students.
