The Virginia Department of Emergency Management (VDEM) is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Human Resources Assistant. This is a wage position, not to exceed 1500 working hours per year (May 1 - April 30). This position is also not entitled to state benefits.
The Human Resources Assistant will be a member of a dedicated, fast-paced, and customer service-focused Human Resources Team! The HR Assistant will be responsible for providing support to the HR Team in a variety of HR and office support functions. The HR Assistant will primarily assist with the hiring process duties, including drafting job postings, candidate sourcing, screening applications, scheduling interviews, conducting reference checks, attending job fairs/career events, and other tasks assigned by the Recruiter. The HR Assistant will also perform data entry, maintain files, update HR systems and spreadsheets, prepare correspondences, respond to inquiries, assist with special events, update the HR SharePoint webpage, and other duties as assigned.
All VDEM employees are designated as essential personnel and may be required to work during emergency situations such as inclement weather and natural or human-made disasters. This may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in the Employee Work Profile.
Minimum Qualifications
• Knowledge of office practices, procedures, and office equipment.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Previous work experience in Human Resources, Recruitment, or providing administrative support.
Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information appropriately and with discretion
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with competing deadlines
• Ability to read and interpret policies, independently research topics, and make recommendations or changes to processes and procedures.
• Excellent communication skills (verbal and written), problem-solving, and a high degree of professionalism and customer service.
Additional Considerations
• Knowledge of state government Human Resources policies and procedures
• Familiarity with Applicant Tracking Systems e.g. PageUp

The wage rate for this position is negotiable up to the maximum wage rate range listed in this posting. Offers will not be made outside of the hiring range.
