Dentist

 

Participates in the implementation of a community-oriented dental program, by providing general dental care in the educative, preventive, curative, and rehabilitative areas.

            

 

 

ESSENTIAL JOB RESULTS

 

  1. PROVIDES DENTAL CARE TO PATIENTS 

by examining and diagnosing patients, and carrying out or supervising therapy; referring patients for specialty consultation; educating patients in oral health; documenting patient-doctor transactions for proper record keeping and billing.

 

  1. PROVIDES INPUT AND RECOMMENDATIONS TO THE DENTAL DIRECTOR 

by participating in the following operational assessments: changes in the program of dental services; development of new or improved dental protocols; evaluation of dental operations; and participation in quality assessment and quality assurance activities.

 

  1. PROVIDES PROFESSIONAL LEADERSHIP TO DENTAL CENTER STAFF 

by providing guidance to the dental hygienist and dental assistants during the provision of patient care, responding to clinical questions, and assuming responsibilities as a member of the patient care team.

 

  1. MAINTAINS PROFESSIONAL AND TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE 

by participating in continuing education or seminars related to job responsibilities.

 

  1. CONTRIBUTES TO TEAM EFFORT 

by accomplishing related results as needed, including participating in organizational and quality improvement initiatives.

 


 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND JOB EVALUATION DOCUMENTATION

 

KNOWLEDGE:

Education:                    Graduation from an approved and accredited school of dentistry with a degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (D.M.D.).  Licensure to practice dentistry in New Mexico is required.  Licensure must be kept current, full, and unrestricted through participation in an appropriate course of continuing education.  If licensure is not from the State of New Mexico, endorsement by the New Mexico Board of Dentistry is required.

 

Experience:                   No specialized experience is required.

 

Skills and Abilities:     Knowledge of the concepts, principles, and practices of dentistry; knowledge of organization and management; ability to communicate ideas and instruction orally and in writing; ability to exercise poise and tact in all contacts inside and outside the Medical Center;  ability to drive to outlying locations (requires current and valid driver's license, and clearance for unrestricted automobile insurance coverage); ability to speak Spanish desirable.

 

INFORMATION PROCESSING:

Employee must gather, analyze, and process information for accurate and responsible decision-making. Position requires ability to listen and evaluate component parts of communications, in order to reach accurate and objective conclusions.

 

Position requires attention to detail, ability to relate data elements, and ability to evaluate discrepancies in data and documents using defined sources of information. Position requires ability to understand and evaluate theoretical concepts and translate them into clear directions and courses of action. Position requires ability to explain procedures and processes, both orally and in written form.

 

DECISION-MAKING:

Employee is not delegated authority to commit the company in the expenditure of funds or in the adoption of changes in policy or procedure. Employee is responsible for identifying correct answers, and for recommending action with a high degree of reliability.

 

INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION:

Employee communicates verbally with co-workers, patients and clients, and members of the public. Such communication must be correct, clear, and understandable. In addition, employee provides instruction to co-workers and patients, for the purpose of information updates/sharing, correction of errors, or implementation of procedures. Employee may be required to speak in Spanish. When doing so, such communication must be accurate and understandable by the recipient. If unable to do so, employee is required to secure the assistance of a co-worker with such Spanish-language skill.

 

Communications regarding changes in policy, denial of requests, negotiation of agreements or contracts, or other like matters are generally relayed through the Dental Director or other member of the Senior Management Team, as delegated. Written communications generally are transmitted without further review or approval.

 

IMPACT OF RESULTS:

Errors by the employee may result in patient  inconvenience, dissatisfaction and potential legal action.  Errors may also result in liability to Las Clinicas del Norte in terms of fines, fees, or other penalties.

Description of Controls: 

Work is reviewed by peers as a part of the quality assurance procedures.
