Maintenance Engineering Intern

Gelest, Inc., part of the Mitsubishi Chemical Group, is seeking a Maintenance Engineering Intern to join our team for the summer.

The Maintenance Engineering Intern will support the Maintenance and Engineering teams in maintaining the safety, reliability, and efficiency of equipment and systems critical to chemical production operations. The intern will contribute to the design, analysis, and optimization of maintenance strategies and participate in projects aimed at improving equipment performance and plant safety. This role offers valuable hands-on experience working in a chemical manufacturing environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in optimizing preventive and predictive maintenance of chemical processing equipment
  • Analyze failure mechanisms in mechanical, electrical, and control systems that impact plant operations.
  • Support the cataloging and classification of critical spare parts
  • Update and maintain equipment documentation, including maintenance procedures and CMMS records.
  • Collaborate with engineering, production, and EHS teams to ensure maintenance work aligns with plant safety and environmental standards (OSHA, EPA, etc.)
  • Contribute to small engineering projects focused on process improvement, equipment upgrades, and maintenance optimization.
  • Support reliability improvement initiatives
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum high school diploma or GED required.
  • Pursuing an associate or bachelor’s degree in a Mechanical, Chemical, or Industrial Engineering or a related field.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical and electrical systems; exposure to chemical processes is a plus.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
  • Wear personal protective equipment as needed.

 

This internship is to be filled for a 10 to 12-week duration, during Summer 2025. Dates are flexible between May-September.
