Job Description
We are looking for a Mechanical Engineering Graduate Student (PhD preferred, MSc
acceptable) with experience in high-power electrical equipment, CAD design, and hands-on testing. This role involves mechanical system integration, thermal management, and test rig development to support powertrain solutions. The candidate will work closely with
multi-disciplinary teams to design, analyze, and optimize powertrain components for maximum performance and reliability.


Duties and Responsibilities
● Design and optimize mechanical structures and electrical components for
high-power applications, ensuring robustness, efficiency, and safety
● Develop and test thermal management solutions, applying simulation tools for
thermal and structural analysis
● Perform CAD modeling and design using software like SolidWorks, managing both
integration and detailed component design
● Build, maintain, and upgrade test stands and rigs for component performance
evaluation and reliability testing
● Conduct FEA and thermal analysis to validate designs under varying operational
conditions
● Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical and control engineers, to
ensure seamless hardware-software integration
● Document and report test results, design improvements, and overall project progress


Knowledge and Skills
● Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., Onshape, SolidWorks, NX) for detailed mechanical
design and system integration
● Experience with high-power systems, especially in mechanical/electrical component
integration and testing
● Strong understanding of thermal management and structural analysis using tools
like Simscale, Simscape, or Femap
● Ability to design and execute tests, troubleshoot issues, and optimize designs based
on performance data
● Familiarity with control systems and hardware-software interfacing is an asset.
● Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
● Detail-oriented and effective at working collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary
environment
● Excellent people and communication skills, both written and verbal are essential
● Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills required
● Ability to creatively and independently problem solve is an asset
● Digitally inclined, with a proficiency with MS Office (Powerpoint, Word, Excel, Outlook,
etc.), Google tools (GSuite, Sheets, Docs, Gmail, Calendar, etc.), and project/task
management tools (like Asana)
● Knowledge of and interest in hybrid and electric vehicle powertrains, including
experience with high-voltage systems, motors, energy storage, and power
management, is preferred but not required


Eligibility Requirements
● Currently enrolled as a graduate student in an accredited Mechanical Engineering
program (PhD preferred; MSc acceptable)
● Experience with high-power equipment, CAD design, and integration within
mechanical and electrical systems
● Authorized to work in the United States


Work Term
● Length: Temporary, 6 months, extendible to 8 months
