Human Resources Intern

May 2021 • Kentwood, MI

What I liked

I like how autonomous I am when I am at work. I set my own schedule and I complete tasks on my own time and cater my work to how I want to do it. I have been given several rewarding responsibilities and learned a lot about HR in the process.

What I wish was different

I wish I had been given bigger responsibilities earlier on because for the first 3 months, I did not have much job satisfaction until I requested to be responsible for more important assignments.

Advice

I would advise to anyone that it is important to trust your boss and employer in any situation. My peers value me as an intern because they trust my work and it is reciprocated.

Automotive Electronics Sales and Account Management Intern

May - August 2018 • Plymouth, MI

What I liked

I liked that this was my first time working within a large business. Most of my prior jobs have been labor intensive jobs. This job required me to understand what my team was "selling" and allowed me to have contact with the Big 3 (Chrysler, Ford, GM) directly. I was able to partake in sales meetings and was able to advance my "business" skills. I feel proficient in Excel after this internship.

What I wish was different

I wish that I was able to partake in price negotiation; however, I was able to witness my boss(es) do this.

Advice

Definitely try to soak in every different experience you encounter because they are all different and all learning opportunities. Don't be afraid to accept and try different projects; your employers know you are an intern and understand that you won't know how to do everything. Ask them for help, and pay attention to them when they are explaining things. That is the best way to learn, even if you "fail" or struggle with something.

Industrial Engineering Co-op

May - August 2018 • Charleston, SC

What I liked

My second term (this past summer) I had the opportunity to take on projects that were similar to those of full time employees. I was proud of the meaningful work I'd completed in my time at Bosch.

What I wish was different

I wish I had a longer term so I could have completed more projects.

Advice

Pay attention to the important questions to ask when you are first given a project and remember that you are on co-op to learn, so don't be afraid to ask for help when you need it!

Mechanical Engineering Intern

January - July 2018 • Charleston, SC

What I liked

I really liked people I worked with. They were always willing to help and taught me a lot of skills and responsibilities that I need to have as an engineer.

What I wish was different

The company was so huge and had many different department where I hoped to have chance to learn about, but there weren't many projects that I could collaborate with many other departments.

Advice

Find the work yourself even though the supervisor doesn't tell you. Your supervisor must be super busy and overwhelmed with his or her own work. However you can definitely help your boss. And by helping your boss, you will learn more, and the supervisors will notice your work and ability and self-motivative character.

Mechanical Engineering Co-op

January - June 2018 • North Charleston, SC

What I liked

I liked getting experience with the industry and working with engineers.

What I wish was different

I wish I had been a little more involved in the engineer work rather than technician work that comprised most of my first rotation as a co-op.

Advice

Seek out internships/ co-ops as early in your four years here as you can. I wish I had started prior to the spring of my Junior year. Also if you do get an offer for a fall/spring internship, make sure to get it school sponsored so you do not lose that semester of financial aid.
