Advice
Treat the process as an educational experience. You can learn so much more and better yourself and others if you treat this experience not as work you have to do, but as an opportunity to advance an understanding of how Civil Engineering works in a real world application.

Environmental Transportation Engineer

What I liked
The job was highly learning-based. The projects I was assigned were helping the agency move forward while also helping me learn about what they do. My ideas were valued and they trusted me with difficult work which helped me grow as an employee. The people working for WSDOT are highly committed to environmental conservation.
What I wish was different
Working for the government, in general, is less creative than a private/smaller company. It is not that I wish it was different, because it ensures the agency is running smoothly, but as a career path I see it as an issue for me.
Advice
I loved working for WSDOT. If you want to try out government work I highly suggest it.
